Mt Colah Preschool Kindergarten, Mt Colah NSW

Our Curriculum

Our Curriculum fosters your child’s love of learning by supporting and extending their natural curiosity and is designed to provide a strong transitional link to the curriculum offered at School.

Our Curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia, working towards developmental learning outcomes. Our programme is designed to provide environments and play experiences to enable the children to grow physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially. The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia is centred on a play based philosophy. Play is a context for learning that:

  • Allows the expression of personality and uniqueness
  • Enhances dispositions such as curiosity and creativity
  • Enables children to make connections between prior experiences and new learning
  • Assists children to develop relationships and concepts and stimulates a sense of well being
“Play provides opportunities for children to learn, as they discover, create, improvise and imagine. Children’s immersion in their play illustrates how play enables them to simply enjoy being”
(EYLF, p.15).

School Readiness Programme

Our goal is to work in partnership with you to prepare your child for school by developing their confidence, independence and nurturing the joy of learning.

The educators at Mt Colah Preschool Kindergarten enjoy the relationships that have been built with the Principals and teachers of local primary schools. By liaising with local kindergarten teachers, along with staying up to date in early childhood developmental research, we provide a School Readiness Programme using a variety of play experiences that will support your child’s development and readiness for the next step in their education.

Connection with Family

We invite parents, family and community members to contribute and participate in our Preschool activities. It is important for the children to understand their own identity through family and to understand that we are all the same and different at the same time! Educators value the contribution of family and community and the richness these contributions bring to our curriculum. Educators enjoy the pleasure of working with parents and family to support the development of the children in our care.

“Working in partnership with families, educators use the Learning Outcomes to guide their planning for children’s learning. In order to engage children actively in learning, educators identify children’s strengths and interests, choose appropriate teaching strategies and design the learning environment. Educators carefully assess learning to inform further planning”
(EYLF, p.9).
