Mt Colah Preschool Kindergarten has been caring for local preschool children aged 3–5 years for over 35 years in our wonderful community. It’s owner has been part of the Preschool since 2010 and along with the Educators we have a passion for providing meaningful prior to school experiences for the children in our care. Mt Colah Preschool Kindergarten is a Licensed and Accredited child care service. We offer high quality and affordable pre-school education. Our wonderful team of Educators strive to continually improve the care and educational services we provide

Starting school is an important time in the lives of children and their families. Our focus is to provide children and families with transition strategies to ensure the change is a positive and happy progression in their education.

At Mt Colah Preschool Kindergarten we provide an environment that encourages children’s natural curiosity, stimulates their thinking, strengthens their communication skills, builds confidence in their own capabilities and supports the development of social responsibility. We aim to meet the insatiable desire for knowledge and stimulation that young children have. Our Educators provide education, care and guidance that will enable your children to become secure in their environment and help them grow emotionally, intellectually and physically. We cater to every child as an individual and respect all cultural and family backgrounds. Families are welcomed and encouraged to visit the Preschool and participate in activities or discuss their child’s needs and progress.

Mt Colah Preschool understands the important role we play within our local community. Our Educators lead children and family in the development of community relationships. Relationships with local primary schools, educational and developmental specialists, local business and more, are vital in supporting our young families. We also encourage our children to help others and we hold events during the year where the children work together to make a difference in our community.

Our large natural playground provides a world of exploration and many opportunities to learn about nature. We have a worm farm and a vegetable garden and the children are able to experience how sustainability works first hand. They also enjoy the fruits of their labours!

Our Philosophy has been derived from our desire to support local children and their families in their transition to School. Our Philosophy also draws strongly from the Early Years Learning Framework – Belonging, Being and Becoming.

Belonging
Knowing where and with whom you belong – is integral to human existence. Children belong first to a family, a cultural group, a neighbourhood and a wider community. Belonging acknowledges children’s interdependence with others and the basis of relationships in defining identities. In early childhood, and throughout life, relationships are crucial to a sense of belonging. Belonging, is central to being and becoming in that it shapes who children are and who they can become.

Being
Childhood is a time to be, to seek and make meaning of the world. Being, recognises the significance of the here and now in children’s lives. It is about the present and them knowing themselves, building and maintaining relationships with others, engaging with life’s joys and complexities, and meeting challenges in everyday life. The early childhood years are not solely preparation for the future but also about the present.

Becoming
Children’s identities, knowledge, understandings, capacities, skills and relationships change during childhood. They are shaped by many different events and circumstances. Becoming, reflects this process of rapid and significant change that occurs in the early years as young children learn and grow. It emphasises learning to participate fully and actively in society.” (EYLF p.7)
